Here’s how tutoring works
Personalize Learning
Our Literacy Specialist Team uses this information to build a personalized learning plan for each student, starting their literacy learning journey with the exact right instruction to help close their reading skill gaps.
Tutor
Our tutors are certified teachers who meet with students for 1:1 virtual tutoring sessions for 25 minutes 4 times a week. We help schools develop schedules that ensure students get 1:1 instruction with minimal disruption to the school day. Whenever possible, tutoring is part of an intervention block so that 1:1 tutoring is part of a larger MTSS solution.
After doing some work to build relationships and orient students to tutoring, OpenLiteracy tutors administer the Core Phonics and ORF assessment to understand students’ literacy learning profile.
Assess
Progress Monitor
At the end of each lesson, students complete an exit ticket. Quarterly, we re-administer the Phonics Skills Survey & DIBELS ORF assessment quarterly to analyze overall reading growth and further personalize learning plans. We report data back to schools on a regular basis to help teachers, families, and administrators support their learners with strategic alignment and shared accountability.
Analyze and Adapt Learning
Our team of learning specialists analyzes exit tickets and quarterly assessments to adapts learning plans to ensure that the exact right content is in front of each student every time they meet with their tutor.
Graduate!
We’re never prouder than when our students graduate from our program. Students who no longer need tutoring support because they are reading at or above grade level exit our program and another student can take their seat at no additional cost.
