Live, Virtual Reading Tutoring that works
Built on the science of reading, OpenLiteracy delivers 1:1 virtual tutoring from certified teachers, building the decoding and reading comprehension skills students need to become skillful readers.
With OpenLiteracy tutoring, students can make tremendous growth in decoding and comprehension.
Students meet with their dedicated tutor through our secure video platform before, during, or after the school day three or four times each week. Each lesson is informed by assessment data and designed to advance students’ decoding and comprehension skills. We use a Phonics Skills Survey and Oral Reading fluency measures as well as exit tickets at every lesson to make sure that every lesson is tailored to each student's needs.
OpenLiteracy sets students up for success
Each school student’s personalized learning plan is designed by our Learning Specialist Team using our proprietary curriculum tools. Our systematic and sequential Foundations Curriculum, aligned with the UFLI scope and sequence, is designed for students mastering key foundational skills while also building comprehension. Our Non-Fiction Navigators Curriculum focuses on developing world knowledge while building skills in reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Our Language Lab and Newcomers Curriculum provide additional intentional supports for English Learners.
Personalized instruction to maximize learning
All of our tutors have been classroom teachers. In fact, our tutors have an average of 15 years of teaching experience! Our hiring process is extremely rigorous, with just 1 of 20 applicants being hired. Tutors also complete a competency-based training that is designed around our curriculum, in addition to participating in ongoing instructional coaching.
